SWConsult were engaged to inspect and remediate different areas of structural walls throughout this existing site. We deduced that the reinforcement was degraded via chloride attacks and full replacement of the first layer of reinforcement was required. The extent of degradation which was quite severe can be seen in Photo 1 below.
If left unattended, concrete cancer can substantially decrease the effective strength of the elements it is influencing. As part of a major project we had a team of specialist remedial contractors breakout the walls being affected for timely remedial action – Photo 2.
After the break out, our contractors removed all of the corroded reinforcement and welded the specified amount of steel to the existing good steel – ensuring structurally sound areas – Photo 3.
Finally, the concrete cancer problem has been solved and the wall re-instated to its initial structural capacity – Photo 4 below.
